Green Fling (#12)

24” x 24” · mixed media on panel

This series of green panels captures the quintessence of the Holonic Art Movement. The original nine panels were sent to artists in the United Kingdom, Finland, Peru, Pacha’s mom in Germany and two San Luis Obispo locals.

Artists

· khoBox (Peru)
· Mary Meng Wade (CA, USA)
· Matt Robinson (UK)
· Rosa Murillo (NC, USA)
· Anne Stahl (CA, USA)
· Jeff Hornaday (CA, USA)

The panel we sent to Peru actually got lost in the mail on the way back to California, but luckily the artist had taken a photograph, so the final collection features a giclee of Carla’s work. The panel we sent to Finland unfortunately never returned. It’s also very notable that Mary Meng Wade (1924-2008) of San Luis Obispo was able to contribute a panel to this piece. Because of a broken hand, Mary painted this ethereal work left-handed. The painting represents the very last piece of art in her long and incredibly prolific career and is titled “Green Fling,” which we chose as the title for the complete work in her honor.

To match the orange panel we combined seven of the small panels with a large 18” x 18” panel featuring a painting on paper by Anne Stahl.

The original concept was supposed to include a panel painted by Pacha with a poem by her husband Jeff Hornaday, inspired by the theme “green”. It was never painted because we changed the format and the panel was no longer needed. Jeff had written his poem already, so we like to include it here:

There’s a movement we’ve recently seen
After treating the planet so mean
The force of our mass
Is killing the grass
So give up the gas and go green
