This alluring piece began with a faceless figure by Grover Beach artist Lena Rushing. Potential contributors were reluctant to give the shapely woman a face, perhaps reading her blank oval head as an intentional commentary on the dissociation of body and spirit. Or maybe they were just too scared to complete the personality initiated by another artist. At last, Mari Robeson stepped forward to color the outfit and unveil an expression. Pacha added some finishing touches, and finally the woman – and the painting – was complete.
